For your move to South Africa, a single container space is often sufficient
Those planning a move to South Africa often ship less than they initially anticipate. This option is particularly suitable for returnees, seconded specialists, and retirees moving to South Africa who are dissolving their household here and starting furnished in Cape Town or around Johannesburg. The actual compromise is in the last column: the shared space saves money and requires adherence to deadlines, while your own container reverses this relationship. Volume, port selection, and customs determine your final price
Why do two quotes differ so much? Three factors explain almost every difference between two calculations for the same cut. You already know the volume after measurement. Which destination port makes sense for your move to South Africa depends on your future place of residence: Durban handles the majority of South Africa’s container traffic, Cape Town is closer to the Western Cape, and Gqeberha serves the Eastern Cape region. The South African customs administration clearly distinguishes between personal belongings and commercial goods. What you used yourself before departure is considered household goods; an originally packaged device from an electronics store is not.

From the quayside, a local clearing agent takes over: they register the shipment, accompany any inspection, and organize onward transport into the interior. For a destination in Gauteng, allow for a land distance of approximately 600 km from Durban, which is calculated separately.
Before the ship departs, all papers are complete. This includes a valued packing list, the export declaration, the bill of lading, and contact information for the agent at the port of arrival. Overseas transports have been part of our daily business since 2008, and the port of Bremerhaven is on our doorstep. Both together keep the number of queries small.
